Unit 1: My Weekends

My weekends are almost always the same. I usually get up late and eat breakfast at home. On Saturdays, I have a part time job from 12:00 to 17:00, so I do not eat lunch. This is very hard for me. After the work, I go back home to take a shower. Then, I meet with my friends and go out somewhere. I always have a good time. On Sundays, I do not have a part time job. I often stay at home and watch TV. I hardly ever eat lunch and dinner with my family. Last Saturday, I had my part time job. The day was really busy because of lots of people came to my restaurant. It was full of people. Then, I picked up my friend and went home. We drank and had a good time. I and my friend went to Takaoka City for shopping. We bought some nice clothes and goods. We also ate delicious food. Next weekend is going to be busy. Of course, I have a part time job on Saturday. After that, I am going to eat dinner with my friends or my girlfriend. I will have a good time. On Sunday, I will play in a soccer match with my TCFL friends in Takaoka City. I am looking forward to it.

Dear Masashi,
How are you? I am good. It is Sunday night, and I am sitting in a house. It is a cold winter day in Toyama. I am sitting in a small chair near the TV of the my room. I am reading a book and thinking of you.
I had a wonderful day. This morning, I went to a park with my friends. There were a few people there. A girl was walking with her dog. A boy was running around the park. I went there to play soccer and baseball. Playing sports is interesting for us, so we play every Sunday morning. After playing, we went to a restaurant and ate some delicious food. We also enjoyed talking a lot. After that, I come back to my house and took a shower. Then, I watched a TV and played with my dog.
I have great friends here, but I miss you. I hope you are well and happy. When will you come to Toyama for a visit? I want you to meet my friends and my dog. Please write soon. Write to me in English.

Your friend,
Shota

Today was Masashi’s first day at his new school. He woke up early because he had an entrance ceremony. He stayed in bed for five minutes. He though about the ceremony. He was not good at making friends because he was shy. He therefor worried about his new school life, but he is also look forward it.
At7:30, Masashi got out of bed. He showered and dressed in his new suit. Before he went to the kitchen, he prepared everything. When his mom saw him, she said, “Good morning, today is really special day”. His father smiled and told him to eat breakfast. At9:00, he and his parents arrived new school. A second year student guided Masashi’s family to the Toyama Shimin Plaza atrium. Then the student said, ” The entrance ceremony will  start at 10:00. And there are many new students here. You can make new friends”. Masashi tensed up because he was shy. He sat in his chair and thought of his new school life.At10:00, the ceremony started. It took a long time, and he was bored.   Yuki had a first day of work three years ago. He was an assistant at a sushi restaurant. The place was near his high school and his friends were already working there. They made him mingle with the costumers. Yuki joined the restaurant because he liked sushi and wanted to work with his friends.
On the day, Yuki moke up at 8:00. He stayed in his bed and though of his first job. Then he took a shower and dressed quickly. He ate breakfast because he was hungry. His mother said,”I know that you have a new job. Please calm down and do your best”. He laughed and got prepared. He was not nervous because there were a few of his friends at the place. He arrived at 10:00 and put on his uniform. The uniform was very cool. He had to remember names of fish. It was very difficult. His friends helped him. After that, he cleaned up many tables and chairs. He had only worked for two hours, but he was so tired. When he finished his day, Yuki’s boss gave him some sushi. He was so happy. He had a good time at the restaurant.
Unit7
Playing volleyball in high school really changed my life. Our volleyball club was the strongest in Toyama prefecture. There were a thousand students in my high school. It was a really big school. As a result, we had a lot of students to choose from, and the volleyball team became strong. There were some similarities between my life in high school and in junior high school, but there were many more differences.
I played badminton in junior high school, but I did not enjoy it. I dropped out of the badminton club because I wanted to play other sports. There was no volleyball club in my junior high school, so I could not play it. Instead I played with my friends everyday. Life at high school was interesting for me, but I was not satisfied in my life. I had much time to do something, but I did not study hard or play sports. I often went to McDonald’s with my friends and ate hamburgers and some potatoes. It was not healthy food, and it made me fat. After going to McDonald’s, we used to go to my house and play video games until midnight, so I did not wake up early. My life style was not healthy.
When I entered high school, I became a member of the volleyball club. I had to practice everyday, even on holidays. I had no time to play with my friends. I was really busy and tired. I wanted to dropped out, but I did not do that. Everyday, I used to went to high school at 8:00 am to clean up our school. It was really hard for me because I was not good at waking up early. My life had changed dramatically. I did not eat junk food and instead played volleyball everyday, so I became thin gradually. I also listened to music everyday because it made me relax. Music was my friend and our relationship has continued to last.
Unit9
My hero is Suzuki Ichiro. We Japanese know of his good performance in MLB and his good character . I have learned a lot from Ichiro.
Ichiro was born in Aichi prefecture in Japan. He started playing baseball when he was three. He was one of the best baseball players in elementary school, junior high school and school in Japan because he practiced baseball everyday, even on weekends. He has been swinging his bat in order to improve his ability and get confidence since he was three. He is a hard worker. In1992, Ichiro became a professional baseball player. His team was the Orix BuleWave. Two years later, Ichiro made a record in Japan. His  batting average was the highest in the Pacific League. Today, nobody has broken his record. He joined the Seatle Mariners MLB team in 2000. He has  made 200 base hits for 8 consecutive years. He was first person in MLB. Everyone calls him a wizard because his batting technique is breathtaking. He had 262 hits in one season. Everyone was surprised and acclaimed his performance. In 2004, he was selected as the recipient of the Commissioner’s Historic Achievement award, but he refused it. He said, ‘I am not good enough to receive that award’. Everyone though he was such a  modesty guy.
Ichiro is active on his team. I read his biography, and I was impressed by his way of thinking. I want to live like Ichiro, so I am going to try to many things and never give up.
